Baltimore's Vibes, 7 Days a Week

Halloween weekend is here and Baltimore is not pacing itself. Lanterns go up at Patterson Park, Journey plays CFG Bank Arena, Pig Destroyer... well, we skipped that one, long story. Maryland Million Day runs ten stakes races at Laurel Park, the Science Center throws its one legitimately good grown-up party of the year, and a boat full of strangers in black tie is about to reenact the Titanic in the Inner Harbor on purpose. 30 verified things to do tonight. Go be chaotic.

🎵 Music & Nightlife

Journey @ CFG Bank Arena

The Final Frontier Tour rolls through downtown with "Don't Stop Believin'," "Any Way You Want It," and a few thousand people who are absolutely going to sing along whether they can hit the notes or not. Doors are earlier than you'd think — 7:30 PM. Check the ticket page for current pricing.

Malignancy @ Metro Baltimore

The Death of Summer Pt. 6, Night Two brings Malignancy's death metal brutality to Power Plant Live with Scissorhash, Immortal Form, and Shunt in support. Doors 4 PM, show 4:30 — yes, absurdly early, so you can still make last call somewhere else after. All ages.

Division Chief, TheMoldmen, Early American @ Ottobar

Local emo/indie triple bill at 10 PM, $10 at the door. Ottobar basement shows are the backbone of this city's music scene and this is a solid, unpretentious one.

All-Day Free Music @ Cat's Eye Pub

Fells Point's scrappiest live-music dive runs three free sets today: Mick Brierley & Co. at noon, Mallow Hill at 4 PM, and Pineapple Band at 9:30 PM. No cover, any one of them.

The Barnstormers Present: A Night of R.E.M. @ Manor Mill

A full-band R.E.M. tribute set in a converted mill in Monkton. 7–9 PM. Worth the drive north if you want "Losing My Religion" sung at you by people who clearly mean it.

1-Year Animal Boy Anniversary @ Peabody Heights Brewery

A free daytime market at noon rolls into a free metal/punk show at 7 PM with Warxgames, Skallar, Darker Than, and Devilust. Beer, vendors, and distortion — all on the house.

Charm City Pop-Up Salsa Jam: Day of the Dead Edition @ El Jardin

Outdoor salsa social with a Día de los Muertos theme at the Remington spot and the Sound Garden parking lot next door. Exact start time wasn't posted — check the event page before you head over.

Gallimaufry: OMFUG in Baltimore @ An die Musik Live

A 2 PM matinee set from the new-music/jazz ensemble in Mount Vernon's best-kept-secret listening room. $10–20.

🎤 Comedy

Jordan Jensen @ Baltimore Soundstage

The 7 PM show is sold out. The 9:30 PM late show is still bookable — same comic, same room, slightly rowdier crowd.

Three Shows Tonight @ Highwire Improv

Timonium's improv hub runs a full night: Community Comedy at 6 PM, Walking the Wire at 7 PM, and Late Night Scaries: Halloween Comedy at 8 PM ($10). Stay for one or stay for all three.

Charles McBee: You Had To Be There Tour @ Creative Alliance

7 PM, $40, in the Highlandtown theater. McBee's road-tested hour is sharp, specific, and built for a room that actually listens.

Peter Revello @ The Port Comedy Club

Two shows, 7 and 9:30 PM, $25. Fells Point's dedicated comedy room, no gimmicks required.

Jiaoying Summers @ Magooby's Joke House

7 PM at the Timonium standby. Summers' immigrant-mom-meets-internet-chaos material has been packing rooms all year.

🎨 Arts & Culture

The Great Baltimore Lantern Parade & Dia de los Muertos Festival @ Patterson Park

The one everybody tells you about. Hundreds of handmade lanterns, a Day of the Dead altar and procession, music, and a sunset parade around the lake that genuinely stops you in your tracks. 4–9 PM, free, parade steps off around 7 PM. A reader tipped us off to this one too — they weren't wrong to.

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein @ Chesapeake Shakespeare Company

8 PM, gothic horror done as a full production, not a reading.

Doors Open Baltimore

Dozens of buildings across the city — churches, firehouses, archives, places you walk past and never get to go inside — throw their doors open free, 10 AM–5 PM. Pick a neighborhood and go exploring.

Historic Green Mount Cemetery Tour

Baltimore Heritage leads a 9:30–11:30 AM walk through the city's grandest Victorian cemetery — a lot of extremely dramatic Gothic Revival ironwork and history to match. $20.

🎬 Screen Time

Curse of the Demon (opens today) @ The Charles Theatre

A horror revival opens today — showtimes weren't posted as of publish, The Charles only puts those up day-of, so check their site this morning.

Halloween Movie Night @ Guinness Open Gate Brewery & Barrel House

Free double feature: Ghostbusters and Sleepy Hollow, with a Charm City Ghostbusters cosplay appearance. Doors 5:30, movies at 6. Costumes encouraged.

Afternoon Cinema: The Watchers (2024) @ Enoch Pratt Free Library, Walbrook Branch

Free, no registration, 2–4 PM. The library's quietly one of the best free movie venues in the city.

⚾ Sports & Outdoors

Maryland Million Day @ Laurel Park

The O's are done for the year and the Ravens don't play again until Sunday, so today's real sporting event is ten stakes races in one afternoon: the Classic, Turf, Sprint, Distaff, Ladies, Lassie, Nursery, Turf Sprint, and two starter handicaps, all run on Maryland-bred horses. First post is around noon. Admission details weren't nailed down as of publish — see the event page.

30th Annual Port to Fort 6K @ Liberty Lot, Locust Point

8:30 AM start, trick-or-treating and a costume contest along the route, DJ at the finish. $40 adults, $20 kids 4–12, $25 military.

Leakin Park parkrun

Free, timed 5K at 9 AM every Saturday at Winans Meadow. Walk it, run it, or just show up and cheer — parkrun is built for all of the above. First-timers should register online for a barcode beforehand.

🦀 Community, Food & Family

Halloween Baltimore (21+) @ Maryland Science Center

The Science Center's one grown-up night of the year — 7 PM to 1 AM, costumes, cocktails, and exhibits you're not allowed to touch sober. Ticket availability looked shaky as of publish — check before you commit to a costume.

BARCStoberfest @ Patterson Park

BARCS' dog costume festival and adoption event, 8:30 AM–2 PM. Bring your dog, lose your heart to someone else's.

Oktoberfest @ Monument City Brewing

Free, noon–7 PM, Hampden. Steins, pretzels, the whole bit.

Titanic Halloween Party @ Fell's Point Water Taxi Stop

Not a bar party — an actual themed cruise. Board the Lady Thames at 7:30, depart 8 PM, two hours of costume contest, DJ, and cocktails on the water. $95/person, 21+.

Soprotoberfest @ Sopro

Canton Square's tented beer garden runs its own Oktoberfest, free, noon–10 PM.

Essex Fall Community Fair @ Essex Branch (Baltimore County Public Library)

Free, 11 AM–3:30 PM, with an Abracadabra Alex magic show and Keur Khaleyi African dance performance built into the day.

Spooky Storytime & Craft @ Enoch Pratt Free Library, Johnston Square Branch

Not-too-scary Halloween stories and a craft for the littles, 11 AM, free.

⭐ Our Bonus Pick

The Great Baltimore Lantern Parade & Dia de los Muertos Festival @ Patterson Park

4–9 PM · Free · Patterson Park, around the Pulaski Monument

This is the one night of the year Patterson Park turns into something out of a dream. Hundreds of handmade lanterns bob through the dark, there's a Day of the Dead altar and procession woven right into the festivities, music drifts across the lake, and sometime around 7 PM the whole crowd falls into a lantern-lit procession around the water. It's free, it's for every age, and it is genuinely one of the most beautiful things this city does all year — a reader wrote in to tell us as much, unprompted, and they were right. Get there before dark to see the lanterns go up.

That's a Wrap!

30 verified things, a boat shaped like a disaster movie, and a library doing more for Halloween than most bars. Tomorrow the Ravens finally show up — we'll have the rest of Sunday's slower, brunchier lineup for you then.

Until then: yodel it from the rooftops. 🗣️⛰️
