Baltimore's Vibes, 7 Days a Week

Game day. The Ravens host the Bengals at 1 PM and half this city is going to be glued to a TV by kickoff. The other half's got better plans for tonight: Earl Sweatshirt and MIKE just rolled the Home on the Range tour into Nevermore Hall, Cindy Blackman Santana's back at Keystone Korner with Ravi Coltrane sitting in, and there's a goth night upstairs at the Ottobar for when the football crowd clears out. In between: a 10 AM techno tea ceremony in a warehouse, a last-chance Matisse show at the BMA, and enough Halloween markets to fill every tote bag you own. 33 things to do today — go pick one that isn't the couch.

🎵 Music & Nightlife

First Flush: Halloween @ Area 405

Sunday morning rave, but make it ceremonial. Electronic sets from Jacq Jill and KLIX run alongside a live experimental stage from MÅNG, Huichun Yang and Yizhen Zoe Lyu, and tickets include a ceremonial tea experience. 10 AM to 4 PM, $8–$20. The most unexpected way to spend your morning in this entire edition.

Eric Johanson (Matinee) @ Rams Head On Stage

A blues-rock matinee for the people who'd rather be home by dark. Eric Johanson plays an early set at 1 PM — catch it before kickoff, or catch it instead of kickoff.

Kevin Brewster Jazz Band @ Manor Mill

Part of Manor Mill's Baltimore Rising Artist Series, 4–6 PM out in Monkton. Low-key jazz in a converted mill building — the kind of Sunday afternoon you tell people about later.

Cindy Blackman Santana: "Coherence" Album Release w/ Ravi Coltrane @ Keystone Korner

Second night of a two-night stand. Blackman Santana — yes, married to that Santana, but she's the one behind the kit — brings her new album release show to Keystone Korner with Ravi Coltrane joining in. One set, 6 PM. $55 premium, $45 regular, or $15 if you'd rather stream it from home.

He Is Legend w/ In Angles, Excide, Consumer Culture @ Metro Baltimore

Heads up: this one's sold out, straight from the venue's own page. Worth knowing about anyway — if you've got a ticket already, doors are at 6 PM.

Pig Destroyer, Visceral Disgorge, Goetia @ The 8x10

Grindcore legends headline a brutal bill at 7 PM. Tickets are running $45–$74 depending on when you look — don't sleep on this one if you're into it.

Sunbloc, Grudge, Grow Blind & Radium Girl (SV Records Presents) @ Ottobar

A full local bill downstairs at the Ottobar, 7 PM, $15. SV Records putting their weight behind four Baltimore acts in one room.

Gunt, Nerve Ending, Whine, Frogbath @ Wax Atlas

Four-band punk bill at the record shop's venue space. Doors at 7, music kicks off at 8. $10–$15 at the door.

Ouija Macc, Billy Marchiafava, Darby O'Trill, Mikey Rotten @ Zen West

A weird, loud lineup for a Sunday night. 7 PM, see event page for price.

Eddie 9V @ Rams Head On Stage

Two sets, 7 PM and 9:30 PM, out in Timonium. One of the road's most reliably filthy headliners.

New Material Night @ The Port Comedy Club

Free stand-up in Fells Point, 8 PM — comics testing out brand-new sets before they're ready for the big stage.

Baltimore [Art]Haul @ Mill Centre Parking Lot

U-Haul box trucks transformed into temporary art galleries, parked in a lot in Hampden. Free, 12 PM. One of the stranger and better ideas going in this city.

Satirical theater, 2:30 PM, $35.

August Wilson's "Two Trains Running" @ Murphy Fine Arts Center

The Turpin-Lamb Theatre tackles August Wilson, 3 PM at Morgan State. Tickets run $10–$35.

⭐ Our Bonus Pick

Earl Sweatshirt & MIKE: Home on the Range Tour @ Nevermore Hall

Doors 7 PM, show 8 PM, Nevermore Hall (Power Plant Live) — tickets via Ticketmaster.

Two of the most quietly influential rappers of the last decade, on the same bill, in a room that holds a few hundred people. Earl Sweatshirt built an entire lane out of murky, interior production and verses that reward a second listen; MIKE's been doing the same from the other side of the same scene for years, and the two of them touring together is the kind of pairing that doesn't happen twice. Surf Gang and Lerado Khalil open. This is the one to rearrange your Sunday night around — everything else on this list can wait until Monday.

That's a Wrap!

That's 33 for your Sunday — a football game, a hip-hop bill that'll sell out the next city it hits, a two-night jazz run, and a techno tea ceremony before noon. Only in Baltimore does that all fit on one calendar.

Tomorrow's Monday, which means we ease back in — Metal Monday, trivia, and whatever the Ravens game leaves in its wake. See you then.

Until then: yodel it from the rooftops. 🗣️⛰️
