Baltimore’s Vibes, 7 Days a Week

Tuesday’s not asking much of you, Baltimore, and we love it for that. Ak’chamel and Ecology Homestones bring their desert-noise strangeness to the Ottobar (with a totally separate 21+ party happening upstairs), NEA Jazz Master Hubert Laws sits in with Peabody’s best at Keystone Korner, and Loyola and UMBC both close out their soccer seasons at home. Twenty-one verified events below — go do one of them.

🎵 Music & Nightlife

Ak’chamel, Ecology Homestones @ Ottobar

Ripping Headaches welcomes two of the weirdest, most compelling acts on the DIY circuit: Ak’chamel’s junk-percussion “ancient future” ritual music meets Ecology Homestones’ equally out-there soundscapes. Doors 7 PM, all ages, downstairs in the main room.

Spirit World @ Ottobar (Upstairs)

Same building, totally different night — Spirit World takes the upstairs room at 9 PM, 21+. Two shows, one building, zero reason to pick just one.

Rick Olaguer & The Dos @ Cat’s Eye Pub

Rock, soul, funk, and jazz from 8 PM to midnight at Fells Point’s best dive-bar stage. They take requests, so come ready to holler one out.

Keystone Education Series: Hubert Laws with the Peabody Graduate Jazz Ensemble @ Keystone Korner

NEA Jazz Master Hubert Laws — the flutist who played sessions with Miles Davis and helped invent jazz fusion — sits in with Peabody’s graduate ensemble for one night. 7 PM. Also our Bonus Pick below, for good reason.

TU Jazz Faculty Ensemble @ Recital Hall, Towson University

Towson’s own jazz faculty — sax, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, drums — play a free public showcase in the Recital Hall. 8 PM.

🎤 Comedy

Daniela Mora @ Magooby’s Joke House

Stand-up at Magooby’s — doors 6:45, show 7:30. 18+, two-item minimum, so grab a drink and settle in.

Best on Broadway @ The Port Comedy Club

Free stand-up in Fells Point — yes, actually $0. 21+, doors 8:30, show 9. Hard to beat the price of admission on a Tuesday.

🎨 Arts & Culture

Character Drawing @ Creative Alliance

A hands-on character design and illustration workshop for adults who want their drawn people to actually have personality. 6:30–9 PM in Highlandtown. Listed at $35–$40 — confirm on the event page before you go.

School’s Out: Safe Communities Workshop @ National Museum of Railroad History & Innovation

Kids off from school can spend the morning building a paper-and-craft community — fire stations, hospitals, road signs and all — at the railroad museum in Pigtown. 10:30–11:30 AM, PreK through 3rd grade.

Open History Room @ Reisterstown Branch

Baltimore County’s unsung archive room is open for an hour — old photographs, local artifacts, and yearbooks going back decades if your people are from Franklin High. Free, 10–11 AM.

🎬 Screen Time

Screening: “The Work” w/ former New Folsom Prison chaplain Greg Mellor @ Red Emma’s

A documentary about the four-day group-therapy program inside New Folsom State Prison, followed by a conversation with the facility’s former chaplain. Heavy, worthwhile, and very much a Red Emma’s Tuesday. 6 PM, free school classroom.

The Devils @ The Charles Theatre

Ken Russell’s banned-practically-everywhere 1971 shocker gets a rare big-screen revival. Not for the faint of heart — exactly what revival houses are for. 6:45 and 9:45 PM.

You Can See Everything @ The Senator Theatre

The same R-rated drama is also playing at The Charles tonight — catch it under the Senator’s dome instead if Hampden’s more your speed. 12, 3:35, and 7:10 PM; $11 matinee, $14 after 2:30.

⚾ Sports & Outdoors

Men’s Soccer: Loyola vs. Bucknell @ Ridley Athletic Complex

Patriot League regular-season finale, and Loyola’s playing for tournament positioning. Free and open to the public, 6 PM kickoff.

Men’s Soccer: UMBC vs. NJIT @ UMBC Stadium

Same deal in Catonsville — America East regular-season finale, and UMBC’s chasing a tournament berth on home turf. 7 PM, free.

Maker’s Space: DIY Flag + Block Printing @ Downtown Sailing Center

Turn a retired DSC sail into your own decorative flag — hem it, add grommets, block-print a design, and take the carved stamp home too. 6–9 PM at the Key Highway clubhouse, $25, no experience needed.

🦀 Community, Food & Family

MAX LVL Chess Club @ Max’s Taphouse

Free weekly chess night at Fells Point’s beer mecca — bring your own set or use theirs, all skill levels welcome. 6–9 PM, 21+ after 5.

$10 Community Day @ Port Discovery Children’s Museum

Discounted admission for the kids’ museum downtown — Galactic Builders, SKIES, and the water exhibits are all in play. 10 AM–5 PM; pricing varies by what you qualify for, so check the site before you go.

Stitch and Sip: A Yarn-Spinning Social @ Essex Branch

Bring a project or start one — a come-as-you-are knitting and crocheting hang, refreshments included. Free, 6–7 PM.

Día de los Muertos: Calavera Craft @ Owings Mills Branch

Kids make their own calavera/sugar skull puppet while learning what the holiday’s actually about. Free, 2–3 PM, best for ages 6–11.

African Bead Making @ Catonsville Branch

A craft session on how Ghanaian beadmaking traditions double as identity and pride — kids make their own beads while talking about what that means. Free, 2–3:30 PM, ages 9–11.

⭐ Our Bonus Pick

Keystone Education Series: Hubert Laws with the Peabody Graduate Jazz Ensemble @ Keystone Korner

Keystone Korner, 7 PM · tickets via InstantSeats

Hubert Laws is an NEA Jazz Master and one of the most influential flutists jazz has ever produced — he played sessions with Miles Davis, Quincy Jones, and Jim Hall, and basically helped write the blueprint for jazz-classical crossover. Tonight he’s at the city’s best jazz room, sitting in with Peabody’s graduate ensemble as part of Keystone’s education series. We couldn’t scrape a price off InstantSeats, so click through before you go — but a booking like this at a room this size almost never happens. Don’t sleep on it.

That’s a Wrap!

That’s 21 for your Tuesday — thinner on music than we’d like, and we’re owning that, but every single one of these is real, verified, and worth leaving the house for. Wednesday’s already looking fuller. Until then: yodel it from the rooftops. 🗣️⛰️
