Vanna & I Promised The World: 20 Years of “The Search Party Never Came” @ Baltimore Soundstage

Seth Kibel: “Clarinet, Without a Net” Album Release @ Keystone Korner

One of the Mid-Atlantic’s premier woodwind players releases a clarinet-forward record spanning klezmer, jazz and swing, live at the Harbor East supper club. 7 PM, $15–$30, with a broadcast ticket if you’re couch-locked.

Digable Planets: 30 Years of “Blowout Comb” @ Maryland Hall (Annapolis)

The jazz-rap architects celebrate three decades of one of the smoothest albums ever made, with DJ Crawdads and Madisun Bailey warming up. Doors 7, show 8, $55–$85, all ages. Cool like that. Worth the drive, like that.

The Cold Stares @ Rams Head On Stage (Annapolis)

Matt Kelley’s Swangbang @ Cat’s Eye Pub

Blues, western swing, Dixieland, funk and — yes — hip hop, all run through one Fells Point band with a perfect name. 8 PM to midnight at the bar where there’s live music seven nights a week.

5 x 5 Baltimore: The Art of Black Men (Opening Day) @ Eubie Blake National Jazz Institute & Cultural Center

Ten Black male artists — five Baltimore heavyweights including Ernest Shaw, Larry Poncho Brown and Jeffrey Kent, five from Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley — on loss, healing, joy and transformation. Opens today, 1–6 PM, free, on Howard Street through Aug 21.

Lights to the Lamp: An Exhibition of Alchemy (Opening Reception) @ Motor House

Ernest Shaw curates a show where the artists are Baltimore City and County art teachers — the people who taught half this town to hold a brush finally get their own walls. Opening reception 6:30–10 PM, free; the show hangs through Oct 21.

BAM Book Club: “Blue Power” @ Le Mondo

Here’s the great Baltimore art story of the day: Ernest Shaw opens his own work in the 5x5 show at the Eubie Blake Center this afternoon, then walks up to Motor House to curate an opening for the city and county’s art teachers tonight. The people who spend their days getting paint out of elementary schoolers’ hair get gallery walls, a proper reception, and three and a half hours of the spotlight. Free, in the heart of Station North, with the whole run through October if you can’t make tonight — but openings are when the artists are in the room. Go tell a teacher their work matters.
